Our Story

The Veritable story is about the quality in everyday life which you deserve and which you can have. It is about living in elegant interiors, surrounded by beauty.

As William Morris wrote: ‘Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.’

The Veritable story is about celebrating moments – whether enjoying Saturday dinner or a Sunday roast, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries or holidays, entertaining friends or simply making everyday meals special.

It’s about slow dining rather than fast food. A pause to enjoy meals prepared with pride. An aesthetic addition to complement your senses of taste, smell, sight, touch and sound.

Whether it is tables, crystal, porcelain or any other tableware, Veritable is about making your dining more beautiful and enjoyable.

The name Veritable comes from the Latin for “true”. What better choice for such authentically beautiful and genuinely practical items?

Veritable is about treating yourself and your loved ones.

It is all about Dining Well.

Veritable Crystals

Why do we use crystals? Because they have such individuality; they are works of art, not just vessels. The technology was invented thousands of years ago to allow for decoration, to shine, and to impress.

The high mineral content adds strength, allowing for greater delicacy, particularly important with wine glasses, where thinner walls and rims improve the tasting experience. These minerals also heighten its refractive properties and lower the working temperature, allowing for intricate decoration to deliver beautiful diamond-like sparkling effects.

These handcrafted clear crystal pieces may be the hardest to make, but the skilled artisans who create Veritable products are the finest of their kind.

The quality of crystals can be felt and heard as well. The lead content means they are heavier than traditional glasses. The unique bell-like ‘ping’ and gentle vibration when two glasses strike is a sound of luxury.

Lead content adds further qualities to crystal glassware – durability, clarity and brilliance. In industry, lead has toxic connotations, and consequently, there have been concerns whether alcohol and acids can leach particles from crystal containers and be potentially absorbed by us. Experts say it is absolutely safe to drink from crystal glassware. We think so too, however, as a precaution, we do not recommend storing alcohol in crystal containers for longer periods. Decanting wine to crystal decanters for a dinner, or sipping whisky from crystal tumblers over a long night is perfectly fine.

Some of our products are made using crystallite – a lead-free glass. Each product description specifies whether it is crystal or crystallite – you can also use the search box to search for either term.

Veritable Tables

Our tables are designed and built to last. Their beauty is about the honesty of the material, robustness and simplicity of design. They each have a soul.

Honesty. Unlike manufacturers using ‘glulam’ technology (making larger members of small pieces of wood), most elements of our tables are made of a single piece of wood. Tabletops may be the only exception, where to achieve a wide surface, we would glue two large pieces of wood together. This technique helps to reduce natural tension within the wood structure, preventing bending and cracking.

Our tables are made of wood from verified, sustainable sources. The trees are felled in winter when the topsoil is frozen, often covered with snow, which minimises damage to the forest floor caused by fallen trees and heavy mechanical equipment. Falling trees in winter have less impact on the living environment, avoiding the breeding season of birds and other animals.

Trees cut in cold months have less ‘juices’ and therefore their wood is easier to dry, and less likely to distort or crack later. It is also better protected from fungal diseases and is more resistant to wood pests.

Robustness. We want these tables to last for decades. This is our belief in sustainability, in creating memories, in bonding generations. This is why they are designed to be solid, heavy, robust and unbreakable. Thick tops and simple finish enable repairs such as sanding, further extending their lifespan.

The design is an outcome of a close collaboration with experienced joiners. They are assembled using a combination of traditional and modern techniques, always with the longevity goal in mind.

Simplicity. As architects we love simplicity. ‘Less is more’ said Mies van der Rohe, the father of modernism. For us, modern is a new classic. It never ages. There are trends, fashions, and styles, they come and go, but the designs always come back to principles of classic or modern. There is even the phrase; ‘classic modern’. Simple modern furniture adapts and complements almost any interior. It is timeless. It is a statement.

Soul. All our tables are made by experienced, talented and passionate craftsmen. The makers simply love what they do and could talk about wood and furniture all day. But they actually prefer making them.

It is not mass production. Each table has its unique number. We keep several types and sizes in stock, however, most tables will be custom-made for you. Please do not hesitate to contact us for special orders, different sizes or finishes.

Sustainability

Our main approach to sustainability is the longevity of our products.

They are designed and chosen to avoid temporary trends. We offer timeless designs that we hope will be loved equally by grandparents and grandchildren. And if they are treated with care, they will indeed last for generations.

Crystal products are more durable and therefore less likely to break than glass ones.

Our tables are designed and built to last. We make sure the wood to produce them comes from sustainable and verified sources.

Unlike many products from large suppliers, Veritable products are all made in Europe, including some in the UK. Their journey to your house is thus relatively short, hence the carbon footprint is low.

They are all created by small-scale manufacturers, using traditional techniques, crafted with skill, passion, and love. When buying our products you support small producers and help to pass unique craft skills on to the next generations.

As a family business, we play our part as well. There is minimal plastic wrapping, and we protect products in transit by filling the cardboard boxes with shredded paper, collected from local offices.

Veritable unifies sustainability with ethics, encouraging to invest in quality and lasting products.
